Removing Malicious Virus MS32DLL

About the virus

This virus is somewhat marked as a Trojan virus, well, a lot of users doesn't know it's origin but it does take it some pretty nasty habits with it. It comes with the harmless look of MS32DLL.dll, but it comes with a very odd extention, ".vbs" (Visual Basic Script file). This sort of files can be run automatically if it is executed from the Auto run.

When this virus effects one computer, it will automatically clones itself and transfer to any external drive, let it be a thumb drive, an external hardisk, or even a flash card (like SD Card, MMC or Compact Flash). I read a forum stated that some of the other virus that carries the same virus filename also put a text "Hacked by Godzilla" Title bar on Internet Explorer. And it will continue to infect any computer that connects to it.

So far I am not sure whether it is infecting throughout the private network, but I will update if it does.

How Do I Remove It?

There are quite a few steps to remove this Trojan but if your antivirus detects it earlier and erased it you are one step less to complete this detail task:

1. Finding potential processes running

- Press CTRL, ALT and DELETE key together. You will open the Windows Task Manager.
- Click the Processes tab, and comb through the list and see whether there is a program called wscript.exe is running. If you find it, click on it and click End Process.
- After that you can close the Task Manager window.

2. Finding the virus (for those who were not detected by the antivirus - for Microsoft Windows)

- Go to My Computer
- Click Tools at the top bar --> Folder Options
- When you come to the Folder Options window, click on the View tab
- Look for Hidden files and folders
- Click on Show hidden files and folders
- Press OK
- Once the window is closed, click on your C drive once.
- Right click and select Open from the menu bar
- Once you are in there, look for whether there is a filename called MS32DLL.dll.vbs
- If you can't find it in C (like I did), look in C:\Windows
- If you still can't find it, don't worry, press F3 at the top row of your keyboard (in case you don't know) and the search bar will be on your left. Click on All files and folders, and type in the file name MS32DLL.dll.vbs

If you don't find any file in there, congratulations, you are one step out of it.
You can jump to step (4)

3. You found the virus

- Click on the file you found and press SHIFT key and DELETE key
- It will ask you "Are you sure you want to delete (the file name)". Click Yes
- If you find more than one location that has MS32DLL.dll.vbs, then you need to repeat the steps in (3)

4. Editing the Windows Register (do it with full of caution!)

- Click Start --> Run
- Type regedit and press ENTER
- You will come to the Registry Editor window
- On your left there will be the registry directories. Look for:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> Software --> Microsoft --> Windows --> Current Version --> Run
- If there is a MS32DLL in there, delete the entry.
- Then you need to look for:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER --> Software --> Microsoft --> Internet Explorer --> Main
- If you see the Window Title has "Hacked by Godzilla" you should delete that entry.
- You can now close the Registry Editor window

5. Stop all auto runs in future (recommended move)

- Click on Start --> Run
- Type gpedit.msc and press ENTER
- You will come to the Group Policy window
- Go to User Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> System
- Look for Turn off Autoplay and double click it. You will come to Turn Off Autoplay Properties window.
- Click Enable and select All drives from the drop-down combo box.
(It is suggested to turn it off to avoid further potential virus infections in future)
- You can now close the Group Policy window

6. Stopping auto run virus programs (if have)

- Click on Start --> Run - Type msconfig and press ENTER. You will come to the System Configuration Utility window
- Click on the Startup tab, and look for any programs that runs under MS32DLL.dll.vbs
- If you find then, uncheck the checkbox on the left of the file
- Click Apply
- Click Close
- When you close the window it will ask you whether to restart or not. Click on Exit without Restart.

7. Hide your system files

- Go to My Computer
- Click Tools at the top bar --> Folder Options
- When you come to the Folder Options window, click on the View tab
- Look for Hide protected operating system file
- Click on Don't show hidden files and folders
- Press OK

8. Restarting your PC
- Before restart, make sure that you empty your recycle bin
- Restart your PC
- You will see a windows prompt that you have changed your system configurations. Check on the checkbox not to remind you anymore and press ok.

You should be free from this malicious Trojan virus

Sometimes, due to some problems while ripping, rippers are not able to get the perfect "700 MB" Filesize, Which unables you to write the DivX/XviD file to a normal CD-R to enjoy it on your DivX player.

This guide will demonstrate, how we can successfully overcome this problem and write files of size up to 800 MB, into a normal 700 MB CD-R

How ?? : The idea is certainly fascinating. Despite DVD-R becoming more and more affordable regular CD-Rs are still the storage media of choice for most of us. As you may know, both VCD and SVCD can actually contain 800MB of movie data on a regular 700MB data disc. Why? Error correction is the keyword. Regular computer data CDs contain a lot of error protection, so your data won't get lost if you have some scratches on a CD. But the data on the CD itself has no error correction. If you start swapping bits in an executable file you have on a CD the file will no longer work. On the other hand, VCD and SVCD stream have some built-in protection so an additional protection on the data storage medium is no longer needed, which frees up space otherwise used for error correction. Those of you who have had a closer look at their burning program may have noticed that (S)VCDs are burned in mode2 whereas regular data CDs are burned in mode1.

Lets Begin the Fun

You'll need the following software

Step 0: Installation

Unpack Mode2 CD Maker GUI.

Step 1: Create a mode2 image

Start up the GUI.

Then start adding files.

The part of the GUI I marked with a green rectangle can be used to add regular files that do not have their own error correction. For instance VobSub subtitles, external srt subtitles, etc. It's also possible to have whole folders with files in the mode1 part.

The part marked with a red rectangle, Well thats not required

Last but not least select a path where the image will be saved (mode2 CD maker will create a .cue/bin file for you which will take as much space as all the files you put onto your CD). If you want you can select an extension for your movies. By default the movie file I've added would show up as matrix-divx5.dat on the CD. You can change the extension to pretty much anything you want, except for .ogg or .ogm.

Last but not let's press the Write ISO button and wait till the progress bar reaches the right side.

Step 2: Burning the image

Any .cue/.bin capable burning program can be used. Nero, DVD Decrypter and cdrdao are just a few options.

This will burn the 800 Mb + file into a 700 Mb CD-R

This tutorial will teach you how to rip a standard DVD movie to .avi format (DivX or XviD). It also tells you how to add subtitles to the movie without an external subtitle source (e.g. a .srt file).

You must have the following programs:

1. Put the DVD in the drive
2. Open DVD Shrink
3. Click “Open Disc”
4. Select the Disc you wish to rip
5. Wait for it to open the file
6. Click “Re-author”
7. Under “Main Movie” click and drag the title you want (usually Title 1, use the preview to find out which title you want)
8. Click on the “Compression Settings” tab
9. Change the compression setting from “Automatic” to “No Compression”
10. Uncheck all Audio tracks you don’t want (usually you will only want AC3 5.1-ch English or whatever language the movie is really in)
11. (Optional) Select all Subpictures that you want (if there is more than one in the language you want, then select all in that language, we can choose the correct one later)(make sure you select all the English subtitle options if there are subtitles that should be in the movie, such as the alien subtitles in star wars or the elvish subtitles in lord of the rings)
12. Click “Backup”
13. Click “Yes” if it tells you the DVD size is too big
14. Make sure the Backup Target is set to “Hard Disk Folder” then select a folder for the DVD files to go in
15. Click “OK”
16. Wait till it’s done

Step 2 (Only if subtitles are to be added)

1. Open SubRip
2. Click “File”
3. Click “Open VOB(s)”
4. Click “Open Dir”
5. Locate the VOB files that you just created with DVD Shrink
6. Click the first VOB
7. Click “Open”
8. Select the Language Stream you want from the drop down menu
9. Click “Start”
10. It won’t know what any of the letters are at first, so you have to type them in when it asks you to (you’ll understand when you do it)
11. Wait till it’s finished ripping the subs
12. In the bottom window pane, click “Corrections”
13. Click “Post OCR Correction”
14. Select the first option, second option, choose the language of the subtitles, select the third option, leave the next 2 options, then select the 2 options after that
15. Click “Correct”
16. Click “File”
17. Click “Save As”
18. Click “Save”
19. Click “Save”

Step 3

1. Open Auto Gordian Knot
2. Click the folder next to “Input file”
3. Locate the IFO that was ripped in DVD Shrink and open it
4. Click the folder next to “Output file”
5. Name the file what you want
6. Click “Save” If you don’t want or need subtitles, skip to 10.
7. (If you have subtitles) Press Ctrl+F8
8. (If you have subtitles) Click the folder next to “External Subs”
9. (If you have subtitles) Click the subtitles file and open it
10. You do not need to select any subtitle track
11. Select the Audio track that you want (there should only be one)
12. Under “Predefined size” select “1 CD (700 Mb)”
13. Click “Advanced Settings”
14. Click “Fixed width” and select “640”
15. Under “Codec” select either of the options (I use XviD)
16. Click “OK”
17. Click “Add Job”
18. Click “Start”
19. Let it do what it wants, it should take about 2 to 3 hours to finish it all
20. Open the location where you saved the output file and that’s it, you should have a fully working .avi with burnt in subs (if you have subs in the movie)

For the skin you are using, look inside the skin folder, located in
C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Shared\Graphics.
Find the "skin_name".xml file,
where "skin_name" is the name of the skin, and open it using notepad or wordpad.

Find this line:

Change the x's to the hex value of the color you want to use. Save the xml. You will need to exit and restart messenger for this to appear properly. you can do a search for hex values and copy them to the "xxxxxxx" field

This infomation is provided for people who have never installed Vista
NOTE: You will require about 5-6GB free space to prepare for installation (saving 3 download files and extracting them) PLUS a minimum of 10GB for actual installation
1. After you finish downloading these 3 files, run "X13-49120.exe"
2. Ensure that you have about 2.5 GB free space in some partition, preferably C:
3. You must have working win XP/98 to run this installation (making bootable CD will require some extra work)
4. In the setup you will get options to either Upgrade or current windows OR Fresh install, use fresh install if you want Vista along with your current windows
5. It's recommemded that you install on a NTFS partition having more than 15GB free space. Bare Vista OS can consume as much as 8Gb of space!
6. You can do away with Serial and Activation at the time of installation, BUT remember that it's a Vista download from official Microsoft download site (and not a cracked version), so you will have to activate within 1 month.

A very interesting thing i've noted is that, even without a serial number, you can use all the WGA stuff Smiley.

Making Bootable CD:

1. Run x13-49120.exe, after the setup starts cancel it.
2. This will extract files to a folder named 'Vista',
3. Download CDImage program.

5. Type the following command exactly as displayed below, in command prompt.

"cdimage -m -u2 -b C:\Vista\boot\etfsboot.com C:\Vista C:\Vistax86.iso" (without quotes)
(Replace C: with the path of the folder where you have saved these 3 downloaded files)
Command prompt will display the progress of Image creation.

7. Once it shows 100% complete, you will see a new fileVistax86.iso This is a Vista Ultimate Upgrade bootable image.
8. Burn the newly created image to a blank DVD using an image burner (Nero etc). Make sure you burn it using the 'burn image' or 'disk image option. Burning the iso file as it is wont work.
9. Once the image is created, you can safely delete boot.wim, install.wim, X13-49120.exe files, Vista Directory (created in step 2), cdimage.exe file and Vistax86.iso files from your root drive.

You can now use the newly created bootable DVD to install Vista Ultimate Upgrade.

If you are installing Vista for it's visual effects etc, remember that you will need 1GB RAM and a decent graphics card for enjoying all of the visual effects. You will also need new drivers for many devices. Intel 915 users cannot run aero effect (even when onboard graphics can theoretically support that) because of unavailability of WDDM drivers.
